What is Monchis made of?
Monchis is made of two parts, the lid and the bowl. The lid is made with 100% food grade, FDA approved silicone that is BPA, BPS, PVC and Phthalate free.
We used silicone for several reasons:
- It is flexible and malleable, so Monchis can be used to grab food.
- It has been tested for all the safety standards for kids under three.
- It is bacteria, fungal and mold resistant. Perfect for keeping those yummy snacks safe!
- It can be wiped down easily and quickly.
Monchi’s container is made of Tritan plastic.
Here are some benefits of Tritan plastic:
- BPA-free - it is not manufactured with bisphenol A (BPA) or other bisphenol compounds, such as bisphenol S (BPS).
- It is impact-resistant, which means it is less likely to break or shatter as compared to other plastics.
- It is lighter than glass, while maintaining its glass-like transparency despite extended use and repeated washing.
- It is resistant to absorbing odors or stains.
Is Monchis safe?
Absolutely! Monchis is made with food-safe and food-grade materials. It is also dishwasher safe (top-rack only), freezer-safe and microwave-safe up to temperatures of 100 degrees Celsius.
Can Monchis fit into my bag?
Of course! Monchis measures 12cm x 10cm x 6cm, compact enough to fit into any lunch bag of your choosing, while still sufficiently sized for your break-time snacks.
Monchi’s lid is leakproof, so you don’t have to worry about any spillage or accidents.
How do I care for my Monchis?
When using Monchis for the first time, gently wash it with warm soap and water by hand.
Rinse Monchis with water and dish soap with every subsequent use. Do not let oils build up on surface.
Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scouring pads on silicone. They leave scratches that catch food and oils easily.
Make sure silicone is completely dry before using it. Air-drying may take several hours.
When not in use, store Monchis in a cool and dry place.
How do I remove food stains on Monchis?
For cleaning stubborn stains on silicone products you may try one of the following methods:
Natural Method:
1. Acid (Lemon juice or white vinegar)
Mix 1 part vinegar with 3 parts water and apply it to the silicone with a cloth or sponge.
2. Baking Soda
Mix equal parts water and baking soda to build a paste, and simply apply the paste onto the container. Allow for the paste to dry for about 15 minutes, and scrub away with warm water.
For Tougher Stains:
3. 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (can typically be found in the drugstore)
Since hydrogen peroxide is a slow-acting bleaching agent, simply place the discolored item in a bowl or sink and pour on enough hydrogen peroxide to cover the stained area. Let it soak for 24 hours. Rinse well in warm soapy water before using it.
4. Chlorine Bleach solution
Chlorine bleach is stronger and must be diluted. Add two tablespoons of bleach for every two cups of water. Submerge the stained item and soak for 24 hours. Rinse well in warm soapy water before using it.
